Atlanta Pride Executive Director, Buck Cooke, stated, “Once again, our colleagues and friends at the Georgia Aquarium have worked most of the year to create new and exciting ideas to knock everyone’s socks off at the Official Kick Off Party!”

Cooke continued, “One of my favorite things about the Official Kick Off Party is watching all parts of our LGBTQ community come together in a beautiful venue to enjoy good music, fun company, and world-renowned exhibits as we all prepare for the festival to begin the next morning.  All of us at Atlanta Pride are so appreciative to the Georgia Aquarium and their talented staff for hosting our Official Kick Off Party again this year.”

As always, the Aquarium team has lined up an impressive offering of entertainment for attendees, including DJ Edil Hernandez, one of the hottest DJ’s on the scene today.  DJ, Diablo Rojo, a fan favorite for over a decade here in Atlanta will also be featuring his signature “visual” sound throughout what is sure to be a memorable evening!

About Atlanta Pride: The main purpose of the Atlanta Pride Committee (APC,) a 501 (c) organization, is to promote unity, visibility and self-esteem among lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and queer persons and to promote a positive image in the Atlanta area and throughout the Southeastern United States through community activities and services.

The main mission of the APC is to provide lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender and queer persons with cultural and educational programs and activities which enhance

mental and physical health, provide social support, and foster an awareness of the past and present contributions of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and queer persons, through community activities and services, including an annual Pride event.

About Georgia Aquarium:  Georgia Aquarium is an entertaining, intriguing and educational experience for guests of all ages.  While promoting a fun and enjoyable learning experience, the Aquarium instills in its guests a new appreciation for the world’s aquatic biodiversity.

The Aquarium enhances the Georgia tourism offerings and provides local residents with a world-class entertainment attraction.  It is an anchor for downtown’s revitalization efforts being a benefit to both the city and the state.

To date, Georgia Aquarium has attracted more than eleven million visitors and employs more than 400 employees and a dedicated core of more than 2,000 volunteers.  The Aquarium has dedicated twenty-five percent of the gallery space to educating students of all ages who visit the Aquarium, we call it our Learning Loop.  The Aquarium utilizes innovative technologies as well as interactive and interdisciplinary techniques to ensure that students have an enjoyable experience.

One of the Georgia Aquarium’s major goals is to be the leading facility for aquatic animal conservation and research.  Our state-of-the-art animal health facility, the Correll Center for Aquatic Animal Health, is 10,000 square feet and was designed by world class veterinarian professionals and conservation organizations.  It is the only integration of an aquarium and a veterinarian teaching hospital.  On a more global scale, the Georgia Aquarium supports, conducts and leads research on environmental and conservation issues.

Georgia Aquarium is a 501(c)3 organization, and we rely on community support to fund our special programs including education and veterinary services.

About DJ Edil Hernandez:  In three short years he has gone from small local venues to International Events.  He started to play at public venues in 2011, slowly taking off while continuing to share his podcasts for his friends and fans to enjoy. In 2012, he landed in the top 10 of the Gay Days National DJ contest. He also became a regular DJ at the Brink Orlando, had a guest run at the Parliament House and at Pulse Orlando.  During the summer of 2012 he headlined a series of pool parties ‘AQUA’ sponsored by INVASION Orlando & the Come Out With Pride Organization in Orlando. Edil was also voted Orlando’s Favorite DJ in a contest hosted by the same Organization, and played in front of thousands the day of the Pride parade in the Walt Disney Amphitheater.  During the fall of 2012, Edil made his successful San Francisco debut at the Lookout in Castro and two of his sets were featured in “Club XL” at XL 106.7 FM.  In 2013, Edil was featured as part of the DJ Lineup for GayDays at the Double Tree Resort, as part of the Independence Day Celebration DJ Lineup at the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA, in GayDays Vegas and in August of 2013, he was featured at the Mega T-Dance in Montréal Pride. About DJ Diablo Rojo:  Diablo has been spinning in Atlanta, Georgia for the last decade.  Whether it’s a bar, a night club or a festival environment, he’s served up music that’s familiar, leaves audiences engaged, connected and looking forward to future performances.  He appreciates and plays a wide range of genres but personally finds electronica and synthpop his favorite to both collect and listen to.  One of the things that sets Diablo apart from other entertainers is incorporating music video into the mix versus having an audio only set.  He is also a fan of incorporating smartly executed mash ups into his sets and enjoys combining the unexpected “flavors” of two or more artists.   As a promoter, Diablo is best known in Atlanta as the creator of “The ManShaft,” a quarterly men’s event which has placed as “Best Themed Bar Night” multiple years in media surveys in Atlanta.  He has played venues ranging from small, likeMary’s in East Atlanta to larger venues like the Jungle in Midtown, outdoor festivals, circuit events outside of Atlanta, served as opening entertainer for national acts such as Sam Sparro and Cyndi Lauper, and charity events like, Fashion Cares and the GLAAD Awards.
