ATLPrideLogos_FINAL-02Atlanta, Georgia. – The Atlanta Pride Committee (APC) is pleased to announce the full schedule of events in honor of the anniversary of Stonewall.  Additionally, Atlanta Pride is introducing a new logo for the organization on June 1, 2015, in honor of Stonewall Month.

Atlanta Pride is the clearinghouse for the events going on within our LGBTQ community in celebration of Stonewall Month.

When Atlanta Pride was forced to move the festival out of June, Stonewall Week was born in 2009 to allow our community to observe that important anniversary in LGBTQ history. In 2012, Stonewall Week was expanded to Stonewall Month to include more events throughout Atlanta.

Atlanta Pride Executive Director, Buck Cooke, said of the newly published schedule, “This is the fourth year promoting Stonewall Month activities and Atlanta Pride is delighted to work with returning community organizations, like Georgia Equality and Out on Film, and new partners, like SOJOURN and the Reformation Project, to offer all types of activities for the LGBTQ community in our great city.”

Cooke continued, “There is a great variety of events offered this year, including a comedy show, award ceremony, family play day, a free screening of a Golden Globe-nominated film, and more.”

While a schedule listing is included below, please note that some events are free, some involve registration to attend, and some events have tickets on sale online and on-site, so full event descriptions and additional information can be found via the Atlanta Pride website at: http://atlantapride.org/events/

New this year, in honor of Stonewall Month, The Atlanta Pride Committee is unveiling a new logo. This new logo incorporates the Greek letter Lambda, a long-held symbol of the LGBTQ rights movement, and a stylized “A” to represent Atlanta. Sean Todd, a graphic designer who lived in Atlanta and volunteered with Atlanta Pride and a number of other LGBTQ organizations in the city, designed the logo. Todd now resides in San Francisco.

Aaron DeWall, APC Creative & Graphics Chair, said of the logo, “The Atlanta Pride Committee is at a key juncture as it continues to step into the future. The brand for APC has stood the test of time, but, as with any long-running organization, it must balance its past with its future. As APC celebrates 45 years of Pride in Atlanta and looks to roll out a whole new level of excitement as it moves forward, it is the perfect time to re-brand and give a fresh new visual identity to be recognized by in the community. The design of the new logo epitomizes this intention.”

DeWall continued, “In addition to the artistic and marketable strengths of this design, there is a strong historical component. While the ‘A’ not only gives the logo a strong singular and recognizable element, it gives a subtle nod to the Lambda, which was a significant symbol of gay and lesbian rights born from the 1970s in the wake of the Stonewall Rebellion. The Lambda is an especially apt symbol for the gay liberation movement, which energetically seeks a balance in society and which strives through enlightenment to secure equal rights for LGBTQ people.”

Cooke noted, “We are so thankful to all of the community organizations and businesses that want to give our LGBTQ community something to do as we commemorate the 45th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in New York.  We are excited to include the introduction of our new logo as a part of the celebration!”
