Atlanta, Georgia. – The Atlanta Pride Committee (APC) announced the details today for their 2015 Festival Programming. This year’s schedule of events comprises the most diverse offering to date for this ever-evolving event.
APC Executive Director, Jamie Fergerson, said, “We are excited to announce this year’s festival programming – a list of events that includes long time community favorites and some exciting new events and spaces. Atlanta Pride is working towards making sure that the diversity of our programming mirrors the diversity of our community so that there is an activity for everyone during the festival.”
In response to community feedback, organizers plan to open space in the festival to be programmed by the community including: the Gray Pride area, a Family Zone, a Racial Justice Solidarity Space, the Youth Liberation Space, and the Outworlders Gaymer Space.
Fergerson noted, “I am proud to say that we are also opening both of our stages this year with programming by queer and trans people of color, a direct result of feedback from members of our community.”
She continued, “As a Pride organization, we have to find the balance between remembering our history, celebrating recent victories, nurturing ourselves, and calling attention to ongoing struggles for equality. I believe that our 2015 programming addresses each of these things in a way that provides a well-rounded celebration and a little something for all of our attendees.”
Highlights of this year’s programming includes:
- The Spectacular Dolphin Show has been added to the Georgia Aquarium Official Kick Off Party
- Expanded programming at The Atlanta Pride Parade, The Dyke March, and The Trans March
- Dances in the park: Bear Dance and Queer Your Gender Dance Parties
- Health and Wellness Programming: Two Saturday morning yoga classes and health fair with HIV testing and other screenings
- Youth and Family Programming: Family Zone, Youth Liberation Space, and Campus Pride College Fair
